VICTORIA BC
Victoria BC Canada is a wonderful place to visit. The inner harbor is a great place to meet up with friends and family and relax looking out the the ocean, it is a beautiful spot. This is also a good place where you can go orca whale watching in Victoria BC Canada. You can get one of the guided tour boats to see and observe the whales, we did not get to go this time but we hope to try it in the summer when our parents come over for a visit.
Two major buildings that dominate the harbor front are the Victoria BC Parliament building which is an impressive site and is lit up with thousands of lights in the evening and looks fantastic. There is also the Empress Hotel Victoria, which is a wonderful building. This is the place to visit and have your Empress Hotel high tea Victoria, its a great tradition with yummy scones. The Fairmont Express Victoria offers the best of standards, opulence and comfort and if you are staying overnight in Victoria then this is the place to stay, it is a great hotel and it could not have a better location. For more information about the Empress Hotel Victoria BC and other Victoria BC Hotels click here.As you look out to the ocean at the Harbor, to your left is the Royal British Columbia Museum, which is worth a visit and was given the 'Royal' status by Queen Elizabeth II herself when visiting Victoria. It has different native artifacts including clothing, masks and totem poles. It also houses exhibits of local wildlife, which include a woolly mammoth and hosts a IMAX theatre.
The many restaurants Victoria BC has to offer are varied and there are quite a few to chose from in the main shopping area, which is just a five minute stroll from the harbor. We enjoyed a lovely meal looking out over the harbor at a restaurant called Milestones. This is situated on your right as you look out to the ocean from the harbor, you will find some stairs which lead you to the tourist information office and the restaurant entrance is situated next door.
If you take a walk away from the harbor and shops and head south down Douglas you will come to Beacon Hill Park in Victoria Canada. This park is wonderful and offers great shoreline trails with fantastic views, woodland, playing fields, a playground, petting zoo and lovely landscaped gardens. The Victoria Beacon Hill Park is an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of town and a great place to relax. We were not aware of this park before arriving in Victoria. We just happened to be lucky that our hotel was just a stones throw from the park and we just stumbled upon it, which we are very glad we did. We stayed at the James Bay Inn Hotel which is just one block from Beacon Hill Park and is great value for a Victoria hotel. Whilst visiting Victoria we had a drive out to the famous Butchart Gardens Canada. If you do not have a vehicle you can get a bus to Butchart Gardens, pop into the tourist information office at the harbor for current times and pick up points. The Butchart Gardens was a wonderful experience, neither of us are 'green fingered' but this place certainly inspires you to be. To say that the Butchart Gardens started of as a hobby by Mr & Mrs Robert Pim Butchart is amazing, as most of the million visitors a year would agree. The gardens span more than 55 acres and include the famous Sunken garden, which we could sit in all afternoon. The fragrant Rose gardens, which are at their best in July and August. The Japanese garden which was created in 1906 with the help of the Japanese landscaper Isaburo Kishida and is also home to a look out point with great views of Butchart Cove and the Sannich Inlet. The last area you come to are the Italian gardens which were created in 1926 and is home to the Florentine bronze statue of Tacca the Boar, you can also cool of here with a scrumptious ice cream. We hope you have a great time in Victoria.
